'Superwoman' Mui was fit to sign will, doctor tells court
The doctor in charge of treating the late Canto-pop diva Anita Mui Yim-fong described her as a 'superwoman' for her determination to perform on stage despite a poor physique and a terminal illness.
He also told the Court of First Instance that Mui, who died of cervical cancer in 2003, had asked him not to disclose her medical condition to her mother until her death was imminent because she did not want her to be 'tortured' by the news.
Oncologist Peter Teo, of the Hong Kong Sanatorium and Hospital, who treated the late diva for the last five months of her life, talked of his discussions with the late singer during a probate action before the court.
'What worried me the most was her physical capacity for her final concert shows. She had the mental capacity to do so. I'd repeatedly told her it was dangerous for her to dance and sing because she was physically poor,' Dr Teo said.
After he finished his testimony yesterday, the oncologist said outside court that he had been a fan of the late diva and he had advised her not to perform.
'She had bleeding under the skin of her legs at the time.
'She invited me to watch every show. I was very scared, off stage, watching her. I worried I would have to go on stage to resuscitate [her],' Dr Teo said.
