Aluminum Corp of China (Chalco), the mainland's largest alumina and aluminium producer, said yesterday it earned 1.17 billion yuan (HK$1.31 billion) in the first quarter, based on mainland accounting standards.
No comparative or production figures were provided. Chalco's A shares were listed in Shanghai in April last year, so it did not need to provide operating figures for earlier periods.
Turnover was 15.23 billion yuan, while earnings per share were 8.63 fen.
Last month, the Beijing-based firm said profit last year fell 13.5 per cent to 10.2 billion yuan on turnover of 76.18 billion yuan, based on international accounting standards, as lower prices eroded gains from higher production. That means first-quarter profit was 11 per cent of last year's earnings.
Analysts said first-quarter output was slightly affected by power shortages because of snowstorms.
