The French are coming

May is almost here, and for music and arts fans that can only mean one thing: the French are coming.

Le French May this year offers some particularly tasty treats for music lovers, and after a live gig featuring two of France's current it-bands in the form of Hushpuppies and Balbec on May 2, comes a huge party at Hitec on May 31 with almost the full roster of Ed Banger Records, basically the coolest label anywhere on the planet right now.

Based in Paris, the label has enjoyed huge success with showcase act Justice, the infectious duo who won plaudits worldwide last year for their mega-selling album Cross. But while Justice won't be coming back so soon - they appeared at Volar during last year's Le French May - there'll be plenty of the trademark Ed Banger action courtesy of label chief Busy P, Sebastian, DJ Mehdi, Uffie and Feadz, and more.

Busy P - born Pedro Winter - built the label into an independent powerhouse while working as manager of acclaimed French dance duo Daft Punk, and signed a range of acts who followed the Ed Banger philosophy of combining rock and heavy metal with electro, disco and hip hop.

Chief among them is the sassy Uffie, a 20-year-old American-born, Paris-raised vocalist who delivers a range of expletive-filled raps over raspy electro beats provided by her boyfriend, DJ Feadz. Uffie (above, right) and Feadz have proved big drawcards at events such as the Miami Winter Music Conference and a huge buzz is surrounding the impending release of her debut album on Ed Banger.
