Fare Fine Chinese cuisine with an emphasis on speciality dishes such as bird's nest, shark's fin and abalone as well as classic meat dishes and dim sum.

Ambiance Tien Yi occupies two floors high up in The Peak Tower, joined by a sweeping curved staircase with a stylish bar downstairs. The decor is bright and modern with the centrepiece being a two-storey waterfall. There is also a reflection pool suggesting the establishment enjoys more than its share of good fung shui. And of course there are stunning views of Victoria Harbour, though the layout is such that only a handful of diners can enjoy a window seat.

Cost Expect to spend about HK$500 a head excluding drinks. We opted for the banquet dinner for two at HK$488 each. Who to bring That special someone, though it is also ideal for a family get-together.

Turn-ons The combination starter of succulent Zheng Jiang pork in jelly and stir-fried sea cucumber in a spicy sauce hit the right notes, as did the shark's fin soup which was given a definite lift by the addition of shredded crabmeat. The sauteed prawn with crispy bean curd and mango in sweet and sour sauce was a highlight, and the staff deserved top marks for quickly finding a wheat-free alternative to accommodate my gluten-intolerant companion. The braised abalone with Japanese mushroom was hard to fault, as was the sticky rice with minced pork, salted egg and seafood in lotus leaf.
