Fare Austrian.
Ambience The feel of a little tavern in Austria but only minutes from Lan Kwai Fong.
Cost At least HK$400 each for food alone, which is rather steep for what's supposed to be rustic and casual cuisine.
Who to bring A date; the interior is breezy, quiet and pleasant.
Turn-ons The soups here are runaway No 1. Both the lentil soup and the veal goulash were packed with flavours, though the chunks of meat in the goulash were too big. The desserts are also splendid. The apple strudel (left) had a notable cinnamon tang that complemented its sweet-tartness. The caramelised pancakes with plum stew also sent us to heaven.
Turn-offs The wiener schnitzel (below left) was strangely pressed into the thickness of a pizza and, as a result, all we could taste was breadcrumbs. The duck liver terrine came with a rather bland bread instead of schwarzbrot  (German black rye bread). The smoked trout was also rather one-dimensional in flavour.
Drinks A decent selection of German and Austrian wines, and choices from other countries.
