Favourite theme parks
1 Top Towers
Set in the English countryside, the park covers 800 acres with beautiful gardens and 35 different rides and attractions. It was opened in 1980 and has a good range of eating outlets. The service is good and the staff friendly. The park is open from end of March to late October. Entrance cost is US$50. Top recommendation: the wonderful Spinball Super Whiz.
2 Adventure Land
This well-designed California park opened in 1999. It is divided into five areas: Super Hero Land, Kids' Island, Cartoon Town, Triassic Park and Dragon Land. There are 20 attractions and rides in all. Everything is kept in excellent condition. Entry charge: US$60. Open all year round. Top recommendation: Dino Waterfall Ride.
3 Filmland
Located just outside Osaka, this new park (2006) is full of fun for movie-lovers. It is open all year round (though with shorter opening hours in winter) and it costs US$55 to go in. There are areas for different types of film: Samurai Land, Sci-Fi Tour, New York, Scream Town, Dinosaur Jungle and The Wild West. There are 45 attractions and rides. Top recommendation: the Space Ride. The sushi is great and there are some really good shops.
4 Sea Sensation
Although a bit expensive with tickets costing US$65, this park (opened in 2002) is probably worth it. The park is themed according to geography. There is Arabia with camels, the Cave of the Forty Thieves and Aladdin's Lamp. The Caribbean has lots of water features. Volcano (our top recommendation) allows you to experience the world inside a volcano and is pretty amazing. New York is a mock-up of the harbour with the Statue of Liberty. The free-fall Skyscraper Scare is terrifying!  Thirty-eight attractions. Food suitable for each region is available. Location: Spain. Open March 1 to October 31.
5 LA Dream
This  fabulous park has been open since 1985 and they really know what they are doing. Some of the best of the 75 rides and attractions are Ghost Town, Xcellerator (top recommendation), Camp Snoopy, Aztec Revenge, Tiger Hunt and the Mine Train. The food is not very exciting but you'll be too busy to care. The park is open 11 months of the year - in May they do their repairs and prepare new attractions. Price: US$48 - good value indeed.
