Four women make the cut

1-MIN READ1-MIN

The quartet of guest curators for the Hong Kong Art: Open Dialogue series at the Hong Kong Museum of Art are all women - but that's a coincidence, according to Eve Tam Mei-yee, curator of modern art at the museum.

Tam says the selection criteria is based on the best creative ideas, along with practical considerations, such as space and budget. Some 45 local curators were invited to submit a proposal for an Open Dialogue show; 20 were received and four selected.

Digit@logue (guest curator: Ellen Pau) is the first of four shows in the year-long Hong Kong Art: Open Dialogue series at the Hong Kong Museum of Art. The other three are New Ink Art: Innovation and Beyond (guest curator: Alice King), Looking for Antonio Mak (guest curator: Valerie C Doran) and community project Charming Experience (guest curator: Grace Cheng) in which artists interact with special needs groups.

Among other related activities, a publication, tentatively titled Open Dialogue Between Past and Future, is being compiled, featuring museum curators from different generations and including John Warner, the founding curator when the museum was established in 1962.
