BUDDHIST KOK KWONG SECONDARY SCHOOL, SHA KOK ESTATE, SHA TIN AT BUDDHIST Kok Kwong Secondary School (BKKSS), students are made to feel that they too are a part of the teaching system, enjoying opportunities to share the stage with their teachers.
Unlike most secondary schools, where morning assembly is conducted only by the staff, seniors are invited to give a short talk about their experiences or give their views on current issues before an audience of over 1,000 fellow students and teachers.
''The students who would like to give a talk can discuss the subject with the teachers who will give them any necessary advice or guidance,'' said the principal, Ko Bing-cheung.
The morning talks give the students a sense of confidence and encourages their active and enthusiastic participation in school life, besides setting a pleasant atmosphere for the rest of the day.
''We want our students to begin the day with a relaxing assembly, not a boring ritual,'' Mr Bo said.
Last December, the school held a five-day event called ''Teachers and Students Moving Forward'', at which the entire school got together for a variety of sports and diverse activities, including drama and a singing contest.
