Team spirit helps win league title

HONG Kong International School were crowned Division III Grade A football league champions (Hong Kong area) as they breezed to a 5-1 victory over Kiangsu-Chekiang College recently at Happy Valley Sports Ground.

''The strong team spirit is highly commendable as several members gave up their Lunar New Year holidays abroad for the final match.

''After all, we were virtually champions after our 4-0 success over SKH Lui Ming Choi Secondary School in the fourth round,'' said team coach Pat Fredking.

Six schools qualified for the Grade A final round and HKIS set an unbeaten record to take the league title.

HKIS were put to the test only in the first round, scraping through the match against Man Kiu College by a 1-0 margin.

Their 4-1 victory over Queen's College and 8-0 demolition of Raimondi College clearly showed that they were the team to beat for the league title.

In the final match Kiangsu-Chekiang opened the scoring first, but HKIS settled down after left winger Rolf Wilhelm scored the equaliser in the first-half.
