HONG Kong International School were crowned Division III Grade A football league champions (Hong Kong area) as they breezed to a 5-1 victory over Kiangsu-Chekiang College recently at Happy Valley Sports Ground.

  ''The strong team spirit is highly commendable as several members gave up their Lunar New Year holidays abroad for the final match.

  ''After all, we were virtually champions after our 4-0 success over SKH Lui Ming Choi Secondary School in the fourth round,'' said team coach Pat Fredking.

  Six schools qualified for the Grade A final round and HKIS set an unbeaten record to take the league title.

  HKIS were put to the test only in the first round, scraping through the match against Man Kiu College by a 1-0 margin.

  Their 4-1 victory over Queen's College and 8-0 demolition of Raimondi College clearly showed that they were the team to beat for the league title.

  In the final match Kiangsu-Chekiang opened the scoring first, but HKIS settled down after left winger Rolf Wilhelm scored the equaliser in the first-half.

  After the break, HKIS swarmed into attack and the mercurial left-winger hit a hat-trick to lift the team's spirits.

 Just two minutes into the second half, Wilhelm put HKIS ahead with a powerful left-foot shot outside the box.

  In the 50th minute, Wilhelm was on target again. He dribbled past three defenders on the left and scored from close range to make it 3-1.

  Five minutes later, midfielder Kelly Lee tapped in a fine cross to extend HKIS's lead to 4-1.

  Kiangsu-Chekiang's defence was wide open to HKIS lightning attacks. Five minutes from time, Wilhelm found the net once more.

  He broke clear in the centre this time and his low drive brought the final score to 5-1.

  HKIS look set to gain promotion to Division II as their Grade B and C teams stake strong claims to the league title.
