A man hired to slap the actress known as Hong Kong's Ugly Betty was ordered yesterday to perform 160 hours of community service.

Andy Chan Man-chun told actress Angela Tong Ying-ying 'not to be so nosy' after hitting her once in the face, Eastern Court was told.

Chan, 33, said he had been offered HK$2,000 by a man he knew as 'Shek Chai' to assault the 31-year-old, and that he accepted because he was out of work.

He pleaded guilty to two assault charges.

The court heard that Tong's personal assistant, Lam King-fan, suffered scratches to his left hand during a struggle.

Principal Magistrate Garry Tallentire made the community service order after considering Chan's remorse, a positive community service order report, and the fact he committed the assaults because of financial difficulties.
