Veteran pan-democratic legislator Emily Lau Wai-hing and Sai Kung district councillor Ricky Or Yiu-lam  have gained support from The Frontier to run in September's Legislative Council election.
The pair will contest the New Territories East geographical constituency.
Ms Lau, a legislator since 1991, had said earlier that she was still considering whether or not to seek re-election in September.
At a  special meeting last weekend, Frontier members endorsed Ms Lau, its only lawmaker, and Mr Or to join the fierce race for seats in the constituency.
Ms Lau could not be reached for comment yesterday. A Frontier member said she still enjoyed broad support for her candidacy in New Territories East.
Another member doubted Ms Lau had been influenced by the lack of a suitable candidate from The Frontier to stand in her place, since the group was not a political party  that expected new blood to replace an incumbent.
Ms Lau, 56, won election to the legislature as an independent in New Territories East in 1991. She defended her seat in 1995 but was out of Legco while the post-handover provisional legislature sat. She was re-elected in 1998, 2000 and 2004.
Others in the democratic camp who may contest the constituency are incumbents Andrew Cheng Kar-foo  of the Democratic Party, Ronny Tong Ka-wah of the Civic Party and Leung Kwok-hung  of the League of Social Democrats, as well as Wong Sing-chi, who used to represent the constituency,  and Tsang Kwok-fung  of the Civic Party.
