HONG Kong's top woman hurdler Chan Sau-ying underlined her potential for an Asian Games medal by running second to American track star Jackie Joyner-Kersee at the high-profile Sunkist Invitational in Los Angeles yesterday.

The University of Southern California student ran the 50 metres hurdles in 7.03 seconds for the silver, finishing 0.16 of a second behind Joyner-Kersee. Third was Doris Williams in 7.08.

Chan, who ran at the Barcelona Olympic Games, narrowly missed out on an Asian Games medal four years ago when she was pipped into fourth place by a fraction of a second.
