The P.S. I Love You soundtrack is a collection of love songs by artists like James Blunt and The Academy Is ...
The original novel is a tear-jerker: a widow named Holly receives letters and packages from her late husband who, after being diagnosed with cancer, planned a way to help her cope with the grief.
The 16 tracks on the CD mirror the story. But like many soundtracks, there are hits and quite a few misses. The album opens with Love You Till The End by The Pogues. The music, with melancholic guitar chords and repeated lyrics of 'I love you till the end', represents the husband's death. It's followed by Blunt's Same Mistake, a soft ballad featuring the singer's haunting vocals. Everything We Had by The Academy Is ... is an epic, soft-rock piece with touching lyrics which incite flashbacks of the couple's sentimental moments.
Nellie McKay's P.S. I Love You is a song written specially for the movie. It is a simply arranged, story-telling piece, but anyone other than hardcore fans of the story may find it boring.
The album is great for lovers of P.S. I Love You - the book or the movie. For anyone else, it's a collection of moderately good pop with little excitement.
