Singer-actress Karen Mok Man-wai couldn't hold back tears when she saw moon bears being abused at mainland bear bile farms. 'It gives me goose bumps every time I look at the pictures of these poor bears and learn about their tragedies,' Mok (right) said, wiping the tears off her face at a Tuesday night fund-raising event for Animals Asia Foundation (AAF) to which she had brought her entire family. Mok, the AAF's China Bear Ambassador, has worked closely with the group since 2003. In 2005 she donated the income from the Chengdu leg of her concert series. On Tuesday she gave HK$70,000 to coincide with her father, Alan Morris', 70th birthday next month. Three years ago Mok adopted a moon bear, whom she christened Baobeier, meaning 'baby', when she visited the Chengdu moon bear sanctuary. 'I was looking at this bear and he looked back as if he had something to say to me, so I adopted him,' she said. 'Ever since, Baobeier has been recovering well and I have just seen some of his recent pictures. He is just a healthy little bear and my handsome boy.'
