It was a painful situation to be fighting with an older brother, Sun Hung Kai Properties vice-chairman and managing director Thomas Kwok Ping-kwong told reporters yesterday after having dim sum with his mother and family members, but not older brother Walter Kwok Ping-sheung.
'[To fight against an older brother] is a painful decision, but we have to give the top priority to protect the interests of the company,' he said.
It was the first statement from the family since Walter Kwok filed an interim injunction on Thursday to prevent a board meeting during which a vote was to be taken on whether to remove him as chairman and chief executive.
Separately, Mr Kwok said the earthquake in Sichuan was more serious than first thought and the family would donate more money for victims through their personal foundations after Sun Hung Kai donated HK$5 million.
