ADPL sets its sights on winning more seats in Legco election
Frederick Fung Kin-kee, the only legislator from the Association for Democracy and People's Livelihood (ADPL), is looking to bring new blood from the party to the legislature by winning another seat.
While some parties are planning to replace incumbent lawmakers, Mr Fung said such a substitution would not be beneficial to the ADPL's development in the legislature.
'If I was simply replaced by a newcomer, it would be nearly impossible for him or her to understand how the ADPL negotiates with the government or how it compromises with other parties,' he said.
'The best scenario is having two or more legislators simultaneously, so that the party's long-established strategy and tradition in the legislature will not be easily washed away.'
Mr Fung had held the party chairmanship for 18 years but quit after the ADPL suffered a severe setback in November's district council elections.
Analysts see Sham Shui Po district as being a major source of votes for the ADPL. But despite another seat being added to Kowloon West constituency this year, Mr Fung does not see this as an opportunity.
