South China captain Li Haiqiang has won the Footballer of the Year award for the second consecutive year.

Li, 32, received his award at the Hong Kong Football Association annual prize presentation last night.

The mainlander steered the Caroliners to two titles this season, successfully defending the First Division league title and clinching the League Cup.

The left-footed Li, who beat Liverpool goalkeeper Scott Carson with a 40-metre free-kick during last year's Barclays Asia Trophy, was delighted to be doubling up.

'I must thank my teammates and club management. Without their support on and off the field, I could not have achieved this,' said the skipper. 'We came across some problems, especially in the second half of the season, but still hung in there. We need to identify those problems and solve them so we can come back even stronger in the new season. South China are the best organised club in Hong Kong and I am confident we can achieve even better results next season.'

Meanwhile, Workable coach Lee Kin-wo will rejoin his old club Eastern next season following his side's relegation.
