Surf's up at the Fringe! The Central arts venue has ceded to commerce by renaming its ground floor the Quiksilver Guerilla Gallery and hosting the sponsor's Art On Foam exhibition, showcasing 17 very cool and artistic surfboards. Friday's opening apparently operated on surfer time too, as guests had to wait outside until close to 7pm, despite an invitation for 6pm. Once inside, the colourful boards were certainly eye-catching. Only two were created by Hong Kong personalities. One is by local dance group EO2's Otto Wong Chi-on and the other by Thai-Swiss artist CathLove (pictured with her board). 'Waves demonstrate the power of the ocean,' explained the 24-year-old, whose real name is Catherine Grossrieder. But although it can be a destructive power, it can also be admirable in a strange way. And the woman with her eyes closed expresses the calmness of the ocean.' Sadly, this may be the last work of hers we see in Hong Kong. It seems the Sydney University graduate is considering moving to London to pursue her artistic career. 'Honestly, I can't live off my art right now. I hope that one day I can make that breakthrough.' Art On Foam continues until Thursday.
