Premier Wen Jiabao's written instructions on a Beichuan Middle School blackboard will be preserved as a reminder of the confidence and courage he sought to invoke in people in the earthquake-ravaged area. Mr Wen wrote 'Duo Nan Xing Bang', which means much distress regenerates a nation, on a blackboard in front of 500 of the school's students in Mianyang , Sichuan province last Friday. Classes have been moved to a centre there after the school was destroyed in the quake with more than 1,000 students and teachers killed. Students and teachers were reluctant to wipe the writing off and said the characters gave them the strength to carry on, study hard and energise the nation. The school wants to preserve the chalk characters and the artefact may be kept at the centre or at the Mianyang Museum.
