THE Immigration Department made me wait for two whole hours on February 16, when I went to its Lam Tin office to pick up my passport. In this fast-moving world of Hong Kong, lots of meaningful things can be done even within this short period of time. I work in the service industry and it would be ridiculous for me to keep any customers waiting without informing them (verbally and not by written notice) of how long they would be expected to wait, because everyone needs clear guidance when they are being served. It is also very obvious that either the department is being undermanned or badly managed, since there were so many people waiting in the hall and yet only a few counters were open. Surely, if we pay so much tax each year, we should expect better service from the Government. IDA FONG Kowloon
