Winning designs going on show
THERE'S nothing like a bit of competition to boost standards, Hong Kong Fashion Week organiser, the Trade Development Council, decided last year.
So began the TDC's Best Collection Awards, aimed at local manufacturers and designers taking part in the group shows - Knitwear, Casualwear, Specialty, Designers' Collections and Hong Kong Labels - and judged by an international panel of fashion journalists.
Vying for honours at Fashion Week '94, held at the Convention and Exhibition Centre last month, were 45 companies whose offerings attracted capacity audiences; all involved in the garment trade.
Tomorrow, it will be the turn of the public when Fashion Week's winning collections are presented at an afternoon tea show (3pm to 4.30pm) in the Lobby Lounge, Marriott Hotel, Queensway.
Among those receiving trophies at the end of the show will be up-and-coming young designer Lucy Shih, whose origami-inspired eveningwear for Karen Investments scored top marks in the hotly contested Designers' Collections.
On show tomorrow: left, the best collection award winner, origami-inspired cocktail dress with spaghetti straps and flouncing swirl skirt, by Lucy Shih for Karen Investment's Conjurer label; right, certificate of merit winner, front-knotted jacket teamed with flowing skirt in solid orange and prints, co-ordinated with a shawl, from Xin Yi.
