Life gets turned upside down for Takagami brothers Noboru and Toru as evil spirits and demons seek out the younger Toru's spirit in new anime Wagaya no Oinari-sama. Originally a light novel series written by Jin Shibamura and drawn by Eizo Hoden, the story was eventually adapted into a manga for serialisation in the Japanese anthology magazine Dengeki Comic Gao! Recently the series has moved to another magazine, Dengeki Daioh. An anime has been produced by animation studio Zexcs, which also did Eureka Seven, My-HiMe and Kamichu! The show is currently being broadcast on the Chiba TV television network. Tricked into visiting their late mother's hometown Mitsukawa by being told their great-grandmother is dying, Noboru and Toru soon find out the invitation is a ruse to get them there quickly. It is revealed that their mother was the last Water Priestess, a spiritual guardian, of the Miduchi clan. In the clan's long history, there has always been a female heir to take up the duties of the Miduchi Priestess. But Noboru and Toru's mother had only sons. What's more, with each passing generation, the priestess' powers have been weakening. The declining powers mean demons that had been kept at bay have started to step out of the shadows. Among them are those that feed off spiritual beings - and Toru appears to be on the menu. The only way to save Toru is to enlist the help of fox deity Kugen Tenko. However, Kugen has been sealed away for many years as punishment for causing chaos. Find out if she can help when the series becomes available on DVD.
