IN a bid to promote a higher standard of English language and communications skills among tertiary students, Eagle Star Life Assurance is to organise a debating competition.
Five post-secondary institutions, who have already accepted the invitation, are the Baptist College, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the City Polytechnic, Hong Kong Polytechnic and the University of Hong Kong.
The event was initiated back in 1991 and this year's contest is the third sponsored by the firm.
The first rounds of the debate will begin today and the final will be held on March 12.
As an encouragement to the debaters, a total of $54,000 has been offered by the sponsors as prize money.
The debates will be held in various campuses with the final to be hosted by City Polytechnic, last year's champions.
