A natural affair

Destination and east-meets-west weddings have been de rigueur in Asia for more than a decade, so what trends can today's couples consider to set themselves apart from the rest?

The most popular requests these days involve eco-weddings, including holding an event in a pristine natural environment (without causing any damage to it). Experts such as the green-living website The Daily Green (www.thedailygreen.com) agree that there are a few simple steps that can be followed to create a natural event that has personality and makes as little impact on the environment as possible.

Rings

Conflict-free diamonds (which means that no harsh or unfair labour practices have been used to mine, cut or polish them) can be found at Polar Bear Diamonds, or opt for a design from metals that have been melted down and used in new ways from ecologically responsible jeweller Green Karat. Another green route is to 'reuse' a vintage or estate ring - perhaps a family ring passed down from your mother or grandmother.

Invitations

A paperless e-vite may be eco-friendly, but it probably doesn't strike the right note for the event. More couples are looking at the alternative of recycled paper for their wedding invitations, and opting for online RSVPs. Another paper-saving method is to put maps and other event information on a website instead of sending it by post.
