A proposal to build a waterfront corridor from Tsim Sha Tsui to Lei Yue Mun received a warm reception from the development chief yesterday but officials say the plan faces many obstacles.

Secretary for Development Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor toured parts of the proposed promenade - from Laguna Verde and To Kwa Wan - at the invitation of the Kowloon City District Council.

She listened to the council's proposal for developing the walkway along the waterfront from Tsim Sha Tsui pier to Lei Yue Mun, via Hung Hom, To Kwa Wan and Kai Tak.

Councillor Starry Lee Wai-king said Mrs Lam had not ruled out the development after their walk.

But a government source close to the secretary said the proposal faced some difficulties as there were private properties along the waterfront.

The source said the government wanted to give people the chance to appreciate the harbour, which is why it had moved to develop the Tamar site and the dog park in Wan Chai.
