HK ranked most popular destination outside mainland

Hong Kong has been ranked the most popular destination among consumers planning to travel outside the mainland, according to the latest Nielsen China Outbound Travel Monitor report. Macau rated second, followed by Singapore, Thailand and France. Sightseeing and shopping were the main reasons for mainlanders' leisure travel. The telephone and online survey was carried out in January and February in 26 mainland cities, covering 4,103 travellers.

Consortium technician admits computer scam in Tamar case

A senior technician from one of four consortiums vying to build the HK$5.2 billion government headquarters at Tamar will face sentencing in two weeks for submitting 67,113 online comments to support his group's proposal. Cheng Wai-pui, 41, who worked for the China State-Leighton-Yau Lee joint venture, pleaded guilty in Eastern Court to four counts of obtaining access between April and May last year to a computer with dishonest intent. Cheng will be sentenced on June 30 pending a background report.

Welfare recipients get bonus

The government yesterday handed out an extra month's allowance to people living on CSSA and the disability allowance as well as a one-off old-age-allowance bonus of HK$3,000 to those aged at least 65.
