Tax clerk in the clear for copying files

The prosecution failed to sway a magistrate who acquitted a former tax officer of misconduct in February for copying personal details of 18,300 taxpayers. Eastern Magistrate Bina Chainrai upheld her decision in the case of Chu King-kwok yesterday after a review hearing sought by the Justice Department. Prosecutor Marco Li said Chu knew his actions were contrary to his duties. Chu had said he had no plans to use the details.
