Row over hostess lands man in jail

A MAN was jailed yesterday for wounding a nightclub customer who was accused of upsetting a hostess.

Choi Kuk-shek, 24, faced three counts of wounding with intent. He was convicted on one count in the District Court, but was acquitted on another. Earlier, the Crown had offered no evidence on the third count.

Judge Chua sentenced Choi to one year and 10 months' imprisonment.

Prosecutor Ben Beaumont said a group of men went to a nightclub in Nathan Road, Mongkok, at about 12.30 am on January 3, 1992.

At about 3 am, four of the group stayed behind and Chung Kwok-wa told hostess Suet-yee that he wanted to escort her out, the court heard. The request was declined and she asked a waiter to prepare a bill.

After paying the bill, the four men were confronted by a group at the doorway and asked who swore at Suet-yee. The four men did not reply.
