Well versed in staging Shakespearean plays such as Twelfth Night and Much Ado about Nothing, Marymount Secondary School (MSS) is once again taking the stage by storm with a version of Hamlet set in 1920s China.

Instead of the Danish royal palace, Hamlet will be brought to life amidst the chaos of feuding warlords where a scheming evildoer - Claudius - attempts to seize power.

The change in setting will prove refreshing and distinct from past performances.

The MSS version of Hamlet retains the components that made the original a huge success. Audiences will ask themselves difficult questions about life and the dark side of human nature.

Kimberly Tong is particularly excited about her first time in a lead role as Polonius. 'The most exciting part [spoiler!] is getting to die in Act III - I've never died before!'

Sharlene Tai, as Queen Gertrude, also enthuses about the play's inspirational value. 'I learned to understand Shakespeare since I had to do a lot of research.'
