Overexposure
Jump (director: Stephen Fung Tak-lun)
Sniper (director: Dante Lam Chiu-yin)
The furore surrounding Edison Chen Koon-hei's leaked celebrity sex photos claimed two more victims. Jump and Sniper - both of which star the beleaguered singer-cum-actor - have had planned releases in the first half of 2008 cancelled, allegedly because of objections from mainland censors. Sources reveal Jump will probably be subjected to heavy editing - mostly involving the removal of scenes featuring Chen - to appease the authorities. Sniper (above) - in which Chen is one of the principals, so airbrushing him out was a lot more difficult - is due for release in autumn.
The Fantastic Water Babes (director: Jeff Lau Chun-wai)
Expectations were high when Jeff Lau Chun-wai's latest film began shooting last year. It stars two of today's most popular teen idols, in the shape of Gillian Chung Yan-tung (below) and Alex Fong Lik-sun, and has a storyline which chimes in nicely with the Olympics - swimming. The idea is reinforced by Fong's real-life experience representing Hong Kong at the Games. It should have been destined to become a summer hit for Emperor Motion Pictures. Then came the double-whammy of 'Photogate' - after which Chung was no longer deemed suitable as a star attraction. According to Emperor's Albert Lee, the post-production on the film was finished last week, with the release (originally set for last month) probably delayed until winter.
Lost, Indulgence (director: Zhang Yibai)
