HONG Kong's dreams of World Cup glory slipped into oblivion under a hot Kenyan sun here yesterday as Holland inflicted a crushing 134-run defeat on the territory at the Nairobi Club.

Having lost two of their three quarter-final round games, Hong Kong are now out of contention for a semi-final place in the ICC Trophy competition.

They have one more game, against Bangladesh tomorrow.

Chasing a target of 289 in 50 overs, Hong Kong started off soundly with openers Stewart Brew and Mark Eames putting on 59 for the first wicket - their best partnership of the tournament.

But Dutch fast bowler Floris Jansen got the vital breakthrough in the 14th over of the innings when he induced Eames to fish outside the off stump and offer wicketkeeper Reinout Scholte the first of his four catches.

Apart from Brew, who once again looked the only batsman capable of holding his own in the Hong Kong camp, the rest offered little resistance as the Dutch swept into the last four.
