Mary Ching

Who created it? The Mary Ching accessories line was founded in 2006 by Eurasian designer Alison Yeung. A graduate of Central Saint Martins in London, Yeung worked in finance before leaving for the mainland to design shoes and accessories. Her goal is to create the next Shanghai Tang, and judging by her new store in Shanghai and celebrity clients - including Cameron Diaz and Sharon Stone - that may happen. What's next on the cards? A specially designed slipper for Shanghai Tang.

Why we love it? While most brands tend to play down the fact their products are produced on the mainland, Yeung is adamant hers will be the first luxury accessories brand proudly 'Made in China'. She draws inspiration from Chinese design and history as well as British tradition and style. Her collections include mink slippers and hand-crafted evening clutches. Other items are embroidered with comic poems from the 1920s and traditional silk tapestry.

What we'd pick: For autumn-winter, Yeung has updated the signature Mao loafer in fun colours and fabrics such as snake and pony-hair, zebra print (above right; HK$2,550) and denim (right; HK$2,200). Customers can slip a coin into the front part of the shoe for luck.

Where can you get it? At DMop, On Lan Street, Central, tel: 2840 0822 and online at www.marychingshanghai.com.
