Two arrested for drink-driving

Police arrested a man, 46, for drink-driving after his car collided with a double-decker bus at the junction of Wai Yip Street and Wai Fat Road, Kwun Tong, at about 5.30am. No one was hurt. In a separate incident, a man, 45, was arrested for drink-driving after his car mounted a pavement and damaged a 15-metre stretch of railings and a lamp post in Causeway Road outside Victoria Park at about 2.15am. Both men were released on bail of HK$5,000.

Police crack down on motorists

Police issued 213 fixed-penalty tickets, 3,692 summonses and 69 verbal warnings to drivers in a week-long city-wide campaign that ended on Sunday. The campaign focused on speeding, failure to wear seat belts, using hand-held mobile phones while driving, and failure to comply with traffic signals.

Tourists flee fire in flat

Two tourists fled a third-floor flat in Chungking Mansions, Tsim Sha Tsui, when a refrigerator caught fire and set a mattress alight at 10.40am. They alerted a security guard who used a fire hose to douse the flames. One of the men suffered a burn to his foot and was treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
