A government plan to help local chicken farmers by arranging for a catering association to buy some of their stock was rejected yesterday after the group only offered HK$5 per catty (600 grams). Wong Yee-chuen, secretary of the New Territories Chicken Breeders Association, said they wanted at least HK$10 per catty, adding that restaurants usually paid HK$20 per catty. Traders reported that many chickens had not been sold at the 8pm deadline for stock clearance.
