Big backing for tenants' purchase scheme

Nearly nine in 10 public housing tenants would buy their homes if the Tenants Purchase Scheme resumed, a survey has found. And 99.9 per cent of those surveyed said the scheme should be restarted. The Federation of Trade Unions interviewed 996 tenants of Wong Tai Sin and Kwun Tong public estates. The scheme, launched in 1998, was halted in 2002 as one of nine measures to boost the private market. The federation said sales should resume.
