Lenovo service centres, internet lounges for Olympic journalists
Mainland technology giant Lenovo Group will open two personal computer service centres and two internet lounges with a total of 260 desktop computers on July 25 to support about 30,000 journalists expected to use the primary media centres during the Beijing Olympic Games. Lenovo, the world's No4 supplier of personal computers and a worldwide Olympic partner, will service all brands of laptop computers that journalists will carry at the event. China Security & Surveillance Technology, a New York-listed provider of digital surveillance solutions on the mainland, has completed its 68.58 million yuan (HK$78.17 million) purchase of Hong Kong-based holding firm Long Top, which owns security-monitoring specialist Shenzhen Jin Lin Technology. Kingsoft secures 10m yuan software deal from State Grid
State Grid Corp of China, the world's largest electric utility, has awarded leading domestic business software and online game supplier Kingsoft Corp a 10 million yuan contract to provide its units nationwide with mainland-developed office software. Kau Pak-kwan, the chairman and chief executive of Kingsoft, said the company's WPS Office 2007 suite was being used in about 57 ministries, commissions and large organisations such as the Agricultural Bank of China and Tencent Holdings.
