There's good news for talented athletes. The Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme (HKACEP) has been launched by the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC).

A total of HK$14 million, mostly funded by the Home Affairs Bureau, will be spent on the programme over the next three years.

The programme aims to nurture confident, respectable and competitive world-class athletes by providing them with career and education assistance. Athletes from 74 sports associations under the Sports Federation can enrol in the programme.

SF&OC president Timothy Fok Tsun-ting said: 'Elite athletes, who have devoted their time and effort to pursuing sports excellence and bringing Hong Kong glory, deserve our full respect and support. 'With the ... support of tertiary institutions and sponsors, more talented youth will be willing to dedicate themselves to an athletic career, as support is available [when they retire].'

The programme is divided into two parts, providing support to current and retired athletes.

Current athletes can get financial support for part-time education and online English courses. Consultation, seminars, workshops and internships will also be available.
