Many people go in thinking it's a candy store. They are quickly disabused.

Condomania, the city's first from the worldwide chain, sells specially designed condoms as novelty items. The brightly coloured contraception packs do look like candies, so co-owner Dawson Ho and his partners only have themselves to blame.

They insist Condomania is not a sex shop - there are no adult toys. They like to describe their store, in Mong Kok, as a gift shop specialising in condoms.

Saleswoman Tracy said the shop had more female than male customers. 'Most guys are embarrassed and want to leave, but the women seem to enjoy themselves,' she said.

The women's favourite item is the lollipop, where a stick is attached to a candy-flavoured condom.

The shop also sells many certificates - one vouches for one's virginity, another certifies the person is not a virgin, and a particularly useful certificate is for splitting up. You can mail the last one to your soon-to-be ex and spare yourself a painful face-to-face, perhaps. It is definitely good for avoiding a scene. There are also car stickers (pictured): They tell people not to litter.
