Global information and media firm The Nielsen Company has launched two new recruitment programmes in a bid to attract top professionals, aiming to be the 'destination from which talented executives can jumpstart their careers'.

The first programme is a regional drive called 'Destination: Nielsen', which calls for candidates willing to ride the wave of this rapidly growing company and to learn about innovative research in retail, consumer, media and online businesses.

The programme showcases employees' success stories by distributing their testimonials in postcard format to recruitment agencies. Through this approach, the company hopes new recruits will learn how its employees manage to climb the ladder of success.

In the second recruitment initiative, called the 'Graduate Induction Programme', Nielsen hopes initially to hire 100 executives from Greater China.

'We have aggressive business targets in this region and globally, and we're looking to train several talents through a new approach - 13 weeks of training about our various products and research methodology, and then we gradually ease the recruits into their workplace,' said Fanny Chan Ying-fong, managing director of Nielsen (Hong Kong).

'We don't expect these new recruits to work and learn on the job - it is too much for them to start with. We look at staff as an asset. We are happy to invest in them and initially we need to equip them with the necessary skills before they carry on with the business.'
