POLICE believe thieves are stealing older BMW models to provide spare parts for cars smuggled into China several years ago. Organised Crime and Triad Bureau chief, Detective Senior Superintendent Peter Yam Tat-wing, said five of 10 BMWs stolen this month were made between 1987 and 1989. The others were later models. ''It shows that car thieves are not only interested in newer models, they are also keen to steal older ones, apparently because there's a demand for spare parts in China,'' he said.
