Born: May 18, 1981 in Zunyi, Guizhou
Entry: Light flyweight
Credentials: Bronze medal at Athens 2004, winner at world amateur championships in 2005
and 2007
Why he'll win: Because he's arguably the world's top pound-for-pound amateur boxer. His lightning quick jabs and constant movement leave opponents dizzy, but inexperience cost him as he threw away a semi-final lead at Athens to eventual winner Yan Barthelemi Varela of Cuba. Older and wiser, he's at the peak of his powers - as his victory at the world championships in Chicago last year proved. 'I remember being moved to tears at seeing a Chinese athlete standing on top of the podium at the Atlanta Games,' he says. 'I started to imagine I could do the same for my country.'
Who can stop him: Henry Tanamour (Philippines), Nordine Oubaali (France), David Ayrapetyan (Russia)
