Hong Kong women seeking Mr Right have faced difficulties since 1996 when women started to outnumber men.

In 2001 there were 956 men for every 1,000 women; falling to 912 to 1,000 in 2006, according to the report.

Last year there were 3,287,400 men and 3,638,500 women in Hong Kong. The Census and Statistics Department's latest annual edition of 'Women and Men in Hong Kong - Key Statistics' details the status of women and men in major economic and social spheres.

The figures show that, excluding people over 80, the age group which manifests the worst gender inequality is 35 to 39. In that group there were 733 men for every 1,000 women last year. That group's figures were 749 men for every 1,000 women in 2006.
