I wonder if the decline of the English standard of Hong Kong students is due to the ''foreign approach''.
As a secondary student, I would prefer learning English through role plays and drama to just sitting silently in my seat and listening to teachers' explanations.
For two years I learnt English through a method similar to the ''foreign approach''. I really enjoyed learning this way and think it is more effective since personal participation in role plays and drama helps students reinforce the topics being studied.
