Thirteen-year-old Kenneth Kan Man-fung - the youngest ever HKCEE candidate - scored one A, five Bs and a level 5* in English when the exam results were released yesterday.
Although Kenneth fell short of his school's expectations that he would get five straight As, Raimondi College head Andrew Au Gar-wai said he was 'satisfied with his grades in general'.
Kenneth leapfrogged to Form Four after graduating from the primary school section in September, at his parents' urging.
He moved up to Form Five in January after ranking third among 120 science-stream students.
Mr Au admitted that letting Kenneth take the exam three years ahead of schedule had been a 'risk', but decided to give him the go-ahead after he took the HKCEE as a home-study candidate last year. Kenneth, then a primary school student, scored 15 marks on his trial run.
His headmaster said previous worries about Kenneth's social adjustment were unfounded. 'I was concerned whether Kenneth would get along with his classmates. But he mingled pretty well. Despite his small stature, he is mature in terms of appearance and behaviour.'
