Flats damaged by flying windows torn off brand-new tower
Two windows were blown off a glittering new office tower in Quarry Bay yesterday morning and slammed into a residential tower across the street, damaging four flats and terrifying residents.
The impact sent debris flying into the living rooms of the flats and crashing down into the street, but police said no one was injured.
The two windows and their frames were ripped off the 22nd and 28th floors of Swire Properties' just-completed One Island East at about 7.50am, two hours after the No8 signal was issued, at the height of Severe Tropical Storm Kammuri.
They struck four flats between the seventh and 10th floors of Ngar Lan Mansion in Westlands Court on Westlands Road, shattering glass and window frames.
A man who lives on the fifth floor said he was awakened by loud bangs.
'I went out of the bedroom to check and found glass fragments littering the living room,' he said.
