Top French rider pulls out

Melanie Ho

French eventer Jean Teulere has withdrawn Espoir de la Mare from Olympic competition after the horse re-injured himself last weekend. Though the injury is not serious, Teulere, a five-time Olympian, and the team veterinarian decided the risk was too high for the horse to take part in the competition that begins tomorrow. Teulere, 54, was part of the gold medal eventing team from Athens and was hailed as having the necessary experience to help his teammates defend gold, and also was a strong chance of winning an individual medal.
