Aviation fans will soon be able to relive the past by landing a plane at long-gone Kai Tak airport when two flight stimulators arrive in the city at the end of this month.

'Flight Experience' is a package that allows participants to experience the feeling of piloting a Boeing 737 under commercial-pilot supervision.

Alessandro Gadotti, managing director of Flight Experience Hong Kong, said Kai Tak airport was the 'top-selling package' and 'the world's most exciting landing destination' in the 11 Flight Experience outposts worldwide.

'The Kai Tak Airport is a myth for everyone who likes flying,' Mr Gadotti said. 'Pilots have to point their plane towards hills, like crashing. You have to land in the middle of buildings and water.'

He said the city's fickle weather and congested runway made it 'an amazing landing'.

Kai Tak is one of 24,000 airports worldwide represented in the 5.5 metre simulator, in which users can fly in any weather conditions. Flight packages lasted from 30 to 90 minutes, with an hour-long package tentatively priced about HK$2,000, said Mr Gadotti. The firm's website says the 60 minute package costs HK$1,540. The company spent HK$25 million on its flagship in the city, its first in the world to host two simulators, to be installed at Kowloon's MegaBox mall by the end of next month.
