On their home turf, the Chinese have proved they can do almost everything - including putting an end to one of the most enduring dynasties in Games history.
Zhang Juanjuan, ranked a lowly 27th in the preliminaries, shut down the once-invincible Koreans' quest for the women's individual archery title, after scraping past top-ranked Park Sung-hyun by a one-point margin in a 110-109 final victory.
'I had a dream about the gold,' Zhang said. 'When I was competing, I calmed myself down.'
'I think this is the result of the efforts of all the Chinese archers,' Zhang said. 'I think the gold today should also be attributed to the cheers and spectators, and to my confidence and composure.'
Earlier in the day, on the way to the nail-biting shoot-out, Zhang dispatched two of Park's teammates, Yun Ok-hee and Joo Hyun-jung.
The South Koreans have had a stranglehold on the women's individual event since Los Angeles 1984, the sixth longest monopoly in an Olympic event.
