1 Waterthins' 'very premium' cheese twists aren't as light and delicate as cheese straws from bakeries and restaurants, but for a commercial product they're pretty good. The twists, which are made in Australia, come in parmesan, garlic and cheddar cheese flavours, and are sold at Oliver's, in Central (tel: 2810 7710) for HK$39.30 for a 110 gram box.

2 The Plamil brand of organic chocolate spread has a lovely, creamy texture - think of a spreadable ganache - and a surprisingly intense taste, although it's made with cocoa powder, raw sugar, sunflower oil, palm fat, soy flower and lecithin, rather than ganache's chocolate and cream. It's not as sweet as Nutella but would be good used in the same way: spread over toast or in a chocolate and banana sandwich. It can also be warmed slightly and spooned over ice cream. It costs HK$48 for a 275 gram jar from Little Giant in Causeway Bay (tel: 2573 3610).
