Hong Kong reached the medal race in both the men's and women's RS:X windsurfing competition in Qingdao yesterday.
Racing in seven-knot light winds, Chan King-yin finished eighth in race 10, while Vicky Chan Wai-kei achieved her best result with a fourth-place finish.
With one result discarded, Chan King-yin is seventh among the 35-member fleet and the best Asian finisher going into today's medal race, with China's Wang Aichen one place behind.
In the women's event, Chan finished ninth out of 27 sailors and is second in Asia behind China's Yin Jian, who has taken a narrow lead into the medal race, which consists of the top 10 finishers from the 10-race series.
The medal race has been introduced to the Olympics for the first time and double points will be up for grabs. But both Hong Kong sailors are mathematically out of contention.
'We are more than happy with the results, as it is not an easy task to come in the top 10 at the Olympic Games,' said Hong Kong team manager Daniel Lam Wing-chung.
